Local strategic partnerships
The government published the white paper 'Strong and prosperous communities' in October 2006. The white paper was significant for local strategic partnerships and local area agreements. It has been followed by the Local Government and Public Involvement in Health Bill which was granted royal assent in October 2007.
Government consulted on the future of local strategic partnerships early in 2006. This consultation helped shape the local government white paper which was published later in the year.
Following the Local Government Act 2000 which made preparation of a community strategy statutory government produced guidance on implementing local strategic partnerships.
The need to integrate the Sustainable Community Strategy with the local development framework, the spatial plan for the area has been a key theme for government. Guidance on how to integrate the two plans was published in January 2007.
A considerable body of research has been produced on behalf of government on local strategic partnerships. These research papers inflormed the consultation on local strategic partnerships and the subsequent white paper.
