Health and Well-Being Partnership
The Health and Well-Being Partnership deals specifically with issues to do with preserving health, preventing illness and improving care.
Introduction
This thematic partnership was formed in autumn 2007 to help local government and the NHS work closer together, along with the private and voluntary/ community sectors, to improve our health.
Membership of the Health and Well-Being Partnership Board extends to several different organisations. The users of health and social care services and their carers are also represented. Responsibility for chairing the Board alternates between Councillor Jim Couchman and Dr Stephen Richards.
Roles and responsibilities
Oxfordshire is a relatively healthy place but there is a considerable difference in life expectancy between the worst and best areas - the Partnership is responsible for reducing this (and similar) gaps. It is also responsible for the adult health and social care outcomes in the Sustainable Community Strategy.
The role of the Board is to ensure that all the different agencies are working together and to deepen understanding that the factors influencing well-being (or causing illness) are wide-ranging. Improving the environment in which we live and the lifestyles we lead is something that cuts across the responsibilities of several different organisations. The Board therefore aims to deliver health improvement by:
- agreeing shared priority outcomes across partner agencies' organisational boundaries
- providing leadership that promotes action and monitors implementation of agreed priorities
- overseeing the development of personalised provision of care
