Oxfordshire Environment Partnership
The partnership was formed in 2008 as one of a range of thematic partnerships which contribute to the priorities of the Oxfordshire Partnership, Sustainable Communities Strategy and the Local Area Agreement through specific outcomes and targets. It replaces the former Environment Group.
Members include representatives from all five district councils, the county council, governmental and non-governmental organisations. The partnership is chaired by Robin Buxton.
Roles and responsibilities
All thematic partnerships link into the Oxfordshire Partnership and its priorities, as identified in the Sustainable Community Strategy, and take responsibility for delivery of these strategic objectives through Local Area Agreement targets. The Oxfordshire Environment Partnership has pledged to a number of actions in accordance with the Sustainable Community Strategy Delivery Plan. The key actions pledged are:
- Reduce carbon emissions by 50% by 2030 and improve water and energy efficiency by public sector organisations, thereby setting an example for businesses and communities in the county.
- Support efforts by individuals, communities and businesses to respond to climate change and to improve efficiency in their use of water and energy.
- Minimise the effects and risk of flooding.
- Work to prepare for and adapt to inevitable climate change.
- Preserve and enhance the biodiversity of the county.
