Climate change adaptation event

On 20 January 2010 representatives from Local Strategic Partnerships and Thematic Partnerships from across Oxfordshire attended a workshop at the Oxford Town Hall to learn more about:

The workshop was organised and facilitated by a working group of Oxfordshire local authorities set up to deliver the climate change targets in the Local Area Agreement, NI 185 and NI 188, on behalf of the Oxfordshire Waste and Environment Partnership. The workshop featured a presentation by Liz Greenhalgh from the UK Climate Impacts Programme based in Oxford setting the overall context of climate change adaptation and why it’s important to improve our resilience.

A highlight of the workshop was the 'adaptation game' - a climate risk exercise designed by Mark Saunders. Participants were challenged to get to grips with the levels of risk they're exposed to by thinking about the effects of recent extreme weather events on their own organisations, and how they may need to respond to reduce their exposure to risk and financial cost.
