Oxford Inspires' mission is to create the conditions for artists and cultural organisations to flourish and to make it easier and more attractive for Oxfordshire residents and visitors to take advantage of cultural opportunities. This mission could also be expressed as enabling culture and creativity to contribute to economic, educational and community, as well as individual, wellbeing.
This mission underpins an aspiration for Oxfordshire to be recognised internationally as a city-region at the leading edge in contemporary, as well as heritage, culture. Oxfordshire is already recognised as a world leader in support for human ideas and imagination. Today this is especially strong in relation to science, medicine, engineering, education and literature and has the potential to be so for creative individuals active in the arts and culture. We have a solid base on which to develop a role as a 'creative county' including support for innovation, for individual development, for internationalism and in the interplay between arts, science and sustainability.
By virtue of its independent status and countywide brief, Oxford Inspires has a unique overview and role. It complements others who deliver arts and cultural development services, including district councils. Oxford Inspires will focus on doing what it is uniquely well placed to do, what no other body has a remit to do and those things which the cultural sector has a need for but which need to be done collectively.
